A Wonderful Weekend ...

Well, I'm back from a wonderful weekend away. The weather was OK, not too warm, but not too cold, either. We left on Friday late afternoon, and arrived at Bonnie Doon in the dark, around 7pm. Turned on the heating (a reverse cycle heater / airconditioner), which quickly warmed up the annexe and caravan, whilst we unpacked. Had a quiet evening, and early to bed. In the morning, it was quite foggy, and I got some great photos of the sun trying to come through ... the effect was quite spectacular, I thought.

Late in the afternoon, we went for a drive through what would be the lake, if it were full. As it is now, it is only around 23% of it's capacity. We drove to a hill called Chinaman's Hill, and drove up it ... it is very steep, and quite rocky ... the motorbikes have really chewed up the track. It is certainly low-range, first gear 4WD material !! The views from the top are amazing ... you can see Lake Eildon in various directions.

The reflection of the clouds on the water was just beautiful. As you probably have noticed, I like trying to take photos of unusual things, and just trying something different.

I liked this one ... the sun was peeking through the clouds, and highlighted just the one hill.

It was hard to tell where the dead trees ended and the water began !!

We had a spectacular sunset ... the colours were beautiful ... here's just a sample.

On descending the hill again, we quickly stopped, while we still had enough light, so I could get a photo of this amazing wattle tree. There are so many of these trees, scattered around the edges of what would be the lake.

It was a great weekend, spend with 3 other families (the ones who will be travelling to Broken Hill with us in September). I love going to Bonnie Doon ... it has held a special place in my heart for quite some time.

I'm about to go to the boarding cattery to pick up Bambi, then I'm back here to visit you all. I really should be doing the typing I didn't get finished last week ... but, I will be naughty and come visiting first (*giggle* ... don't tell anyone !!).

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, too.

Take care,

MEOW

Neat photos and it sounds like a good time was had by all. That, plus sharing it with good friends, makes for about the best type of a weekend.

Welcome back and next time I sure wish I could go! Your pictures are wondeful and really captured the beauty of Boonie Doon. The sunrise and sunset were great and I am going to have to goggle a wattle tree! I think I like the one of the dead trees best! Ver nice, almost made me think I was there!

That first photo is absolutely spectacular! Did you have to "fiddle" much with the camera to get that shot?

It's sad to see the dams so low. A couple of years ago we went for a hike at Lake Eppalock near Bendigo. Even back then we were able to walk on the bottom of the dam. It was interesting though in that a number of structures like bridges which had been submerged, could be seen.

I think these are the best pics you've ever posted, Meow. Seriously. You should think about entering them in some kind of competition. They really are that good.

Good to hear that your weekend was lovely. :-)

Dick ... thank you. You are right, it's friends that make for a good time.

Pea ... thank you. I'm glad you like the photos. I have heaps more, but felt these were the nicest.

Fruitful Spirit ... thank you. A wattle tree is a native to Australia, and is of the Acacia family (or something like that ... I need to look it up, too !!). Their pollen causes severe hayfever in many people. Fortunately, I am not one of them !!!

Momyblogr ... thank you. I might post a few others of the dead treees ... stay tuned !!

Val ... thank you. Actually, I didn't fiddle with the camera at all. I just put it on auto, pointed, zoomed and clicked !!! I know what you mean about the things appearing that would normally be under the water. There are heaps around Lake Eildon.

Sonia ... thank you, and you are welcome.

Bossy Britches ... thank you. I wish Summer were almost here ... still a long way to go, unfortunately. Still quite cold at night.

Loraloo ... thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed them.

Diane ... thank you. Your compliments are making me blush. They are just happy-snappies. I like taking photos. I don't know if anyone would take them seriously, though. You really think so ???

Thank you friends, it is always a pleasure to share my photos with you all.
Take care, Meow

Thanks for your prayers and sympathy and thanks too for your happy greetings. I'll be back by Wednesday for the Wordless Wednesday.
My sister-in-law was finally put to rest. Cremation took place yesterday. It was a very painful moment for all of us as she was loved by the family. However, when one loves someone, she/he must also learn how to let go.
I would also like to thank you for the happy greetings for my new grandson.
I'll be back Wednesday for the Wordless Wednesday. As of now, my head seems to be floating on air. I can't seem to find my brains anywhere yet.

Tink ... thank you so much.

Merle ... thank you. Glad you enjoyed the slang post. Bonnie Doon is a beautiful place. Hope you are doing ok.

Connie ... thank you. I have some others with the dead trees reflected ... I may have to post them later this week.

Jeanette ... thank you. I love water photos ... I have some beauties of the Murray, taken years ago with an old camera. The water gives photos an interesting viewpoint, I feel.

Fridays Child ... I hope you are doing OK. You have been going through a very rough time. Take care.

Alice ... thank you so much. I also love all your Canberra photos. There is something special about taking photos and sharing them, don't you think.

Have a wonderful week, everyone.

Take care, Hugs, Meow

I liek your pictures, particularly the one with the sun on its peak...

Do you have a flicker page?

dragonflyfilly said...

my apologies for not visiting sooner, but i have changed my internet service, to "light", sounds like some new kind of diet food, eh? -- anyway, it IS a bit slower and sometimes takes me longer to get to comment sections on the Blogs, and i get impatient and check out!

N E way, here i am, and the photos are NOTHING LESS THAN SPECTACULAR! wow, i thought the first was of the moon, then read on the see it was the sun, and the one of the reflections in the water is wonderful, they would make wonderful posters you know, blown up large, can you imagine!...

i want to go on a trip like that too!!!

Meow (aka Connie) said...

Cathy ... thank you.

Jean-luc ... thank you.

Margaret ... thank you, it is wonderful place.

Greeneyes ... thank you. We do get stuck occasionally, but as we never go alone, there is always someone to rescue us. It doesn't happen to often though ... only twice that I can remember !! Usually hubby drives ... he loves it !! Wish you could join us, too. Hugs.

Ciscokid ... thank you. No, I don't have a flickr page ... perhaps I should set one up !!

Tab ... thank you. Hope you are doing well.

PJ ... thank you. Bugger to the slower connection ... that can be frustrating. I have often thought of "blowing up" some of my pics to poster size ... who knows, maybe.

Thanks everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful week.

Take care, Meow
