My First Assignment ...
I just had to share this with you, I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself ..
The first assignment in my Travel Writing course instructed us to ..."In 50 to 300 words, describe your favorite place on the planet." We could write about a place we really love, whether it be our hometown, or a place where we have vacationed. It instructed us to not use a variety of words ... pretty, attractive, good, nice, beautiful, lovely, or other wishy-washy descriptive words. Also, we were not to use ... very, really, especially, quite, incredible.
Here's what I wrote ...
VRILYA POINT, CAPE YORK
FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA
As we sat on the beach, cameras ready, waiting for the sunset, the only sounds were the waves pounding in the distance, at the entrance to the river, and the gentle breeze whispering through the trees behind us. The ocean appeared to be never-ending, stretching to perpetuity. As the sun set quickly, you could almost hear it sizzle, as it seemed to melt into the water in the far-distant horizon. Then darkness descended upon us.
We are not really graded on the assignments, they are for practice, really, but we can post them on the discussion area to be critiqued. Here's what my Instructor, Eva Shaw, wrote ...
The darkness descended ... wow, I was there. Vivid writing. Eva.
Pretty cool, huh !?!?!

I'm here via Melinda's blog. I've never been to Australia...but your photo and description of Vrilya Point have definitely moved Australia to the 'must visit someday' list.
Beautiful photo and writing to illustrate same! My grandma used to tell us to listen for the "sizzle" as the sun sun below the horizon in the West...
:)
Hey, that's great, Connie. I've done a travel writing course, too. Wonder if it's the same one as yours? I've also done a proofreading and editing course, which has been very helpful with my work at time, as I've been promoted to Quality Assurance, where I check others' work before it goes back to the client.
You'll enjoy that course, I did and one day, I'll post some of the stuff I did.
Keep warm. Hugs xoxo
Hi Connie, well done with the photo and the description.
"The comments are descending."
Congratulations ! I agree to a 10 out of 10 ! Must be a very interesting course. But counting 300 words ? I think that would be very hard for me, lol !
Good for you, Connie...keep up the good work. You will get so much fulfillment from it and you will be so inspired. :)
The words and pictures do each other justice, Connie.
Hi Connie ~~ Congrats on a lovely photo and story - - Well done. Do you never stop looking for more things to do? Good luck with it, anyway. I have tagged you for a Schmooze award.
A bit of fun and not too difficult.
Take care of yourelf and have a great Sunday. Love, Merle.
Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments. I am really getting a kick out of this course ... hope to post something else I've written soon.
Take care, Meow
