Thursday continued ...

My earlier post was a bit brief (I was actually gas-bagging on MSN whilst I wrote it, so it seems I forgot bits to tell you LOL !), so I thought I might share some more with you here !!

This morning must have been the coldest, crispest morning I have ever experienced since living in this area. When I went outside, everything was white (frost), and my car was icy ... now it's been icy on the roof, bonnet & boot before, but never quite like this ... the doors were iced over, I could barely put the key in the door lock, and I couldn't pull the door handles to open the doors. It was cold, damn cold !! I had to go and get a jug, so I could use tap water to pour over areas to defrost them, so I could actually open the doors. It was quite bizarre. It wasn't just smooth ice, either, it was sort of spikey ... looked quite cool, actually !! But, silly me, I forgot to take some photos. How slack is that !! My husband says it was around 1C when he left for work at 5.30am. It was 3C when I got outside. That is unusually cold for here.

About 11am, I left home to go to Eltham to have lunch with Val and Gina, as I mentioned in my last post. When I was almost there, I started hearing a strange noise from my car ... sort of like I had a flat tire (which I didn't). I pulled over and looked ... couldn't see anything, and thought ... bugger, I'm continuing on !! I got to Eltham, and pulled into the street where I was going to park and ... OMG, no brakes !!! I pumped the pedal, and fortunately they worked, briefly ... long enough to park the car, thank goodness. I thought to myself ... should I ring up roadside assist, or should I go to lunch ... lunch won !! The car could wait ... it wasn't going anywhere. Besides, I wanted to catch up with the ladies !!

Anyway, we found one another (Gina had never met Val or I, but Val & I had met twice before) where we had arranged to meet, and headed off down to Volumes for lunch, and a browse. Wow, what a great place ... all those books ... a girl could go mad !!! We ate, chatted, shared stories, and had a lovely time. All too soon it was time for me to leave (I thought I had better get this car sorted out LOL). Val and Gina walked me back to my car, and they headed off to go to a Scrapbooking shop (bugger, I missed out !!). I called RACV Roadside assist, who arrived within about 20 minutes. They fiddled around, took off a wheel, checked a few things, and seemed to fix the problem. I drove home rather nervously, but made it home safely, thank goodness. Hubby checked it out again when I got home, and it seems OK ... probably just one of those things.

So, apart from the slight glitch with my car (when my heart jumped into my throat, and I broke out in a cold sweat when the brakes didn't work LOL), I had a lovely time. Both ladies are wonderful people, very different to each other, but with many similarities, too. It's hard to believe, but Gina is probably crazier about cats than I am LOL. Is that possible !?!? We all have an interest in various forms of art and crafts ... lots of things to share with each other ... fun !! Thank you, Val & Gina, for a fun lunch ... hope we can do it again soon.

I apologise for having no photograph of the 3 of us ... both Val and I forgot our cameras. However, Gina had hers, and took a couple of photos. Check out her blog ... she may have posted one !!

Isn't blogging wonderful ... it allows us to meet people who we may not normally meet. I am forever greatful to my friend, Madi, who introduced me to blogging all those months ago. Although she seems to have given up blogging, I hope to continue for quite some time to come. Thank you all for being such wonderful blog friends, and I will try not to be such a neglectful blogger in fugure.

Ok, enough mush ... I had better sign off now, and get to visiting you all.

Have a great Friday, and a wonderful weekend.

Take care,

You're weather is the exact opposite of ours here. It has been extremely hot these past days considering that we should be experiencing rains by this time.

Nice to be back. I missed the blogging world and I can see that I have a lot of catching up to do. I will try to read all your posts by the end of the week.

Photos are on my blog now, Connie! (Patra's Other Place). It was a beaut day; bugger about the car, but we didn't let that spoil our fun! Next time we'll go to the Eltham library and the scrapbooking warehouse. And I'll put in an order to Him Up There for a slightly warmer day ;-)

That's a strong Winter you've got there! Over here, it doesn't look like Summer at all. Cloudy, windy, rainy...etc.
How wonderful to have met fellow bloggers :)

You're right, Meow. Blogging DOES enable people who would not normally meet to contact each other.

Well, didn't it snow around that area at Christmas time/summer? So I guess that frost shouldn't have been TOO shocking. ;)

Glad your car is okay, they got there fast! Last time I had to call roadside over here in the US I would have had time to go to lunch and shopping with the girls in the time it took them to show up!

That's scary about your brakes! Glad you didn't come to any harm, though.

I'm jealous that you got to meet your blogging buddies for lunch. I've met one blogging friend so far. She was visiting a friend in a nearby town and drove here to meet me. That was last summer, actually.

Have a great Friday and weekend, C. :-)

Love and hugs,

Diane

It's been a bit chilly up here too, Meow but not as bad as that. I, too, have had car trouble...somewhere along the way I lost my fan belt! Had a new one fitted this morning.

Have a great weekend and stay warm. :)

Just a great get together, Meow and Gina, and look forward to the next one. Will post my take on our visit today, and check out the photos on Gina's blog.

I agree with Peter: I'd have those brakes checked out too.

Viamarie ... hey, welcome back ... haven't seen you for awhile.

Gina ... the photos look great, thanks. I'll be there, just name a day !!

Devil Mood ... it is a "normal" winter this year (although I just read it was the coldest morning in my suburb -1.3C since 1969). The last couple of Winters were quite mild.

Jean-luc ... thank you.

Greeneyes ... thanks for the frost ... it was quite crisp LOL. Glad you are having a bit of summer ... don't forget the sunscreen !! Hugs

Silverneurotic ... thanks. It doesn't usually snow here ever ... just in the mountains !! I was quite impressed with the roadside assist person .. it was a quick response

Diane ... thank you. If we lived closer, we could lunch together ... maybe we have to have a virtual lunch !!

Peter ... thank you. My hubby is quite the mechanic, and if he says the brakes are ok, it is the truth. He's very good !!

Raggedy ... thank you. HOpe you are doing OK, get well soon.

Lee ... thanks. Gosh, how long were you driving without a fanbelt ??

Val ... thanks, it was a lovely visit, wasn't it. I sure do want to do it again soon. Will check your blog shortly.

Take care, Meow

It sounds like you had quite a nice day with the girls. I am very glad that it doesn't get that cold here in Brisbane...I'm really not a winter person.

Hi Connie ~~ Glad you had a nice visit with Val and Gina and the photos are nice at Ginas. Glad the cae problem was fixed so easily and no harm done
We have lots of days starting at O
or 1 C, but we didn't have the awful fog that you had in Melbourne. My son
had to go there today, so wouldn't see much for the fog. Hope it is better tomorrow for you. We get fog, but not one that hangs around. SO FAR. Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

Can I just say OMG about your car brakes!!!!!!!..Thankgod you parked and went to eat!

That is so cool about meeting blog friends.

Have a great weekend..And thankyou for your prayers and postive thoughts. HUGS~

I would say the cold had something to do with your brake failure, Meow. Hopefully it's nothing serious, but it would pay to have them checked.

Glad you had a lovely lunch...but it just seems to damn cold down south. I don't like the cold at all. We had westerlies for a couple of days and they cut through you like a knife, but since then it hasn't been too bad.

In fact, I was out today just in jeans and a T-shirt. But, ok, that's Brisbane, isn't it?

Have a lovely weekend, Meow, and keep your tootsies warm.

Hugs

Hi Meow,
Thanks so much for visiting me and your sweet wishes for our anniversary!
Another visit with Val? Lucky you!!
You're freezing there and we have over 100º temps. (sorry not sure what that is in celcius)
:)

I'm so glad you didn't have a mishap with the car.
I loved this post. Isn't it wonderful to have friends like that?

Sorry to hear it was so cold. I expect that here but not in your part of the world. I always have a small bottle of lock de-icer somewhere for emergencies like the one you described :-)

I agree about meeting up with people, I love it, and wish I could do more of it. If I had lots of money I would fly all over meeting people

Wow you were cold. And Wow, you had a close call with the brakes thing. I'm so happy that it happened, when/where you could easily stop. Wheeeew!

Glad you had such a nice visit but... I do believe I'm more glad, that you are OK, even with the car glitch. Eeek! :-))))

Too strange. You have frost, and I am roasting my hiney off. The blood sucking bugs make the air buzz at sundown, the humidity is making me want to stab myself, and it is raining daily.

Want to trade climates? Only Ill take slightly less frost. Frost sounds too cold. Ill take highs in the low 70s. and give you all the rain and mosquitoes you want.

Thank god your okay. It still boggles my brain that when I am sweating my butt off you are freezing.

Jamie Dawn said...

Blogging is indeed wonderful! I'm so glad you had a nice time.

It's hard to imagine cold weather right now. Here it is hot and very humid every day. We are sweating like mad every day!

No brakes!!!
I would have peed my pants... or worse!

Loraloo ... thank you. Mmmm, yes please, send heat LOL

Jeanette ... it was cold, wasn't it !! Hopefully we can catch up some day ... I come up to Yarrawonga here and there !!

Tey ... I envy you the Queensland weather.

Merle ... thanks. It has been fairly foggy here, and it just hangs around for such along time ... hard to get washing dry LOL.

Heidi ... thank you, and yes, you can say OMG ... I actually said much more LOL.

Puss-In-Boots ... thank you. Aahh, jeans and t-shirt ... that's the life !! I dress like that ... in side, with the heater on LOL.

Susie ... thank you. It's bizarre the different climates we live in, isn't it !!

Tink ... sure does. Thank you.

KyahGirl ... thanks. Not sure if lock de-icer is a product available in "sunny" Australia !! Have to check it out, thanks.

BaDoozie ... thanks it is heaps of fun meeting fellow bloggers.

Mari-Nanci ... thank you. I am glad it ended well, too !!

Lazy Iguana ... thanks, I'll take the rain, but you can keep your mozzies LOL.

DaybyDay ... thanks ... it is very odd, the climate thingy, isn't it !!

Jamie Dawn ... thanks. I very nearly did the "and worse" LOL

Take care, everyone ... Meow

Stay warm, take care, Meow
