The Sun Is Shining Again !!

Hello everyone, and a big thank you for your wonderful comments on my last post, whilst I was down in the doldrums. I have gotten through it, and my inner sun is shining again, and all is well in my world !!

It was a strange few days, though ... I can't remember when I last felt like that. I hate feeling so down, and lacking motivation, and just feeling awful ... no fun at all. At least it didn't last too long. It's funny, but writing down how I felt in that blog post seemed to help me snap out of it ... I guess, for me, blogging is a form of anti-depressant !! After I gave birth to Chicky, for about 3 or 4 months, I suffered from Post Natal Depression, but just thought it was the baby-blues (maybe it was) ... I was always (and still am) such an "in control" person, so feeling the way I was just wasn't right. It wasn't until I went and saw a doctor, who asked me heaps of questions, checked me over, then actually told me what I was suffering from, and offered to prescribe me anti-depressants ... that I snapped out of it !! Really, within a week or so, I was feeling "normal" again ... I guess actually admitting that I was feeling depressed, seems to reverse the feeling ... with me, at least !!

Anyway ...

I have been in a cleaning frenzy ... I love it (and loathe it, too) when I get like this, as I get so much done. I totally ripped apart my kitchen, cleaned every surface, wiped every item, tossed out anything that hadn't been looked at or touched for awhile .... and now my kitchen looks amazing again. Hubby reckons it looks like when we just moved in !! No clutter, and everything shiny and sparkling !! I am so proud of myself !! I also did all the other normal cleaning ... bathroom, loo, dusting, vacuuming, cleaned fishtanks, etc., etc., etc. I love a clean house ...

Today was fun .... Val came by at around 11.30, picked me up, and we went out for a few hours. We headed into Ferntree Gully, to the Swiss Bakery there, and bought a stack (each) of Laugen Bretzeln ... they are yummy pretzels, well known to Germans and the Swiss. There aren't too many places around the suburbs of Melbourne where you can buy them, so it is worth the trip when you find something yummy like this !! We had a light lunch in a little cafe near there ... a lovely little place, where they grind their own coffee blends ... the smell when you walk through the door is just glorious !! We then explored the shopping strip (not really a great shopping centre ... the attraction was the bakery !!), and visited the patchwork / craft shop. They have the most amazing fabrics there ... and the colours, wow ... if you love patchwork and quilting, you could go crazy in there. Afterwards, the cold wind was getting ridiculous, so we jumped back in the car and came back here, to my place, where we took photos of ourselves, to mark the occasion, eating our pretzels ...

Then I showed Val some photos, and stuff from a couple of trips we had done. We chatted for awhile, then it was time for Val to head home. All in all, it was a great afternoon, I had a wonderful time ... Thanks, Val, it is always a pleasure to catch up with you. Hope we can do it again soon.

I received a fun email today, which I just had to share .... thanks, Ange, for sending it to me ...

THE LAWS OF CAT PHYSICS ...

Law of Cat Inertia
A cat at rest will tend to remain at rest, unless acted upon by some outside force - such as the opening of cat food, or a nearby scurrying mouse.

Law of Cat Motion
A cat will move in a straight line, unless there is a really good reason to change direction.

Law of Cat Magnetics
All blue blazers and black sweaters attract cat hair in direct proportion to the darkness of the fabric.

Law of Cat Stretching
A cat will stretch to a distance proportional to the length of the nap just taken.

Law of Cat Sleeping
All cats must sleep with people whenever possible, in a position as uncomfortable for the people involved as is possible for the cat.

Law of Cat Elongation
A cat can make her body long enough to reach just about any counter top that has anything remotely interesting on it.

Law of Cat Acceleration
A cat will accelerate at a constant rate, until he gets good and ready to stop.

Law of Obedience Resistance
A cat's resistance varies in proportion to a human's desire for her to do something.

First Law of Energy Conservation
Cats know that energy can neither be created nor destroyed and will, therefore, use as little energy as possible.

Second Law of Energy Conservation
Cats also know that energy can only be stored by a lot of napping.

Law of Refrigerator Observation
If a cat watches a refrigerator long enough, someone will come along and take out something good to eat.

Law of Electric Blanket Attraction
Turn on an electric blanket and a cat will jump into bed at the speed of light.

Law of Random Comfort Seeking
A cat will always seek, and usually take over, the most comfortable spot in any given room.

Law of Furniture Replacement
A cat's desire to scratch furniture is directly proportional to the cost of the furniture.

Law of Cat Landing
A cat will always land in the softest place possible.

Law of Pill Rejection
Any pill given to a cat has the potential energy to reach escape velocity.

Law of Cat Composition
A cat is composed of Matter + Anti-Matter + It Doesn't Matter

(Bambi, in a strange pose ... just finished washing herself)

OK, enough from me for now ... I have some blog visiting to do (and I WILL do it, this time !!). Enjoy the remainder of your week, have fun, smile heaps, and stay happy ... I know I will !!

Take care,

Heeheehee! Love the Cat Physics, Connie! How true that is...we know our cats, don't we?

Glad you're feeling chirpier now. There's nothing worse than having the blues, especially when we can't think of any reason for having them!

Take care xoxo

Oh, I'm so glad you're feeling better, Connie. It's just an icky feeling when you're down like that, isn't it?

I have those cleaning fits occasionally myself, but if I think a spell is coming on I try to lie or sit quietly until it passes, LOL! ;o)

Looks like you and Val had a great time. I love those pretzels! It's been years since I had one, other than the ones I make at home which are not quite the same, although they are pretty good. I keep hoping somebody will open a good pretzel shop in our new mall.

Those Cat Laws of Physics are dead on! Whoever adapted them with cats in mind really knows their cat stuff.

Hope all is well with Chickie and hubby and you have a great rest of the week, my friend. ;-)

Next time you're on MSN or Facebook email me and if I'm in here we'll chat. I don't leave my MSN or Facebook open all the time because they slow down my computer so much, but I'm in here quite a bit.

Love and hugs,

Diane

I find that when I'm feeling out of sorts...I usually start feeling better once I start talking or writing about it. A lot of what gets you down, gets you down because you hold it inside without release...and once you release it you feel a lot lighter and able to look at the situation easier.

Now it was bad enough Val mentioning the pretzels but now you had to go tell me that you got them at Mountain Gate! The Craft Connection was my LQS for nearly 20 years! and the Swiss Bakehouse ! Next time you go, try the Beenenshtich [ can't spell it but you know what I mean, those Beesting things, just heavenly ]
Oh and btw Val said she'll drop of my CD next weekend. Thanks for that :]

okay ... getting seriously freaky now. Did you ever take the short way along Cerutty Way when walking your DD home from Primary school ?cos if you did, you probably stopped to talk to my Smokey, known to all the Primary School kids as 'the friendly cat' [ cos I just KNOW you would've stopped to pat a super handsome Burmese boy, right?]

yay!! So glad to hear that you're feeling more like your usual happy self.
Your outing with Val sounded fun, and your picture is fab ~ you girls look great! I'm the same with a clean home, don't actually enjoy cleaning, but do love it when it's clean...things seem calmer and more relaxing.
thanks so much about your kind comment over at mine, and yes thankfully my neck pain has eased somewhat, which is a relief.
Take care dear Connie, xo Kali

Weird - I've just finished writing a post on how blogging helps my state of mind, too. Hmmmm...maybe we have caught that S.A.D. thing (seasonal affective disorder) - Melbourne can get a bit like that in Winter!

Hey, glad to know you're feeling better. Even the most positive of persons (like you) can fbe feeling a little down sometimes and the blog could be a way to help us deal with it - I'm glad it made a difference to you.
I love clean houses too, there's a feeling of ...I don't know, satisfaction and pureness when you get things around you clean. Or getting rid of clutter, that works for me too.
Fun picture of you :)

I was once diagnosed with depression and given a prescription...I had no sooner taken a pill than I felt better...but they weren't supposed to work for a week...now that I look back on it, like you, just the admitting it part helped clear a lot of the fog.
I too love a good clean house...kept neat after all my hard work, thank you very much...I have to stay after Hubby on that one! But isn't it amazing how cleaning it all up makes you feel better??
Then the ultimate...shopping and visiting with a good friend, with a warm toasty pretzel...
You ought to be feeling pretty good now huh???

Hi, Connie! I just discovered your blog. How wonderful to meet another cat-lover/book addict! I have been in feral cat rescue for 30+ years, and (at the moment) have 6 housecats (all tamed ferals or abandoned strays) and a feral colony of 6 cats (down from 21 two years ago...got them all fixed and found homes for many of them).

I am also a book addict and novelist. I write "The Witchery Series" novels (magickal urban fantasy novels) published by Kittyfeather Press. Because I am such a cat person all the main characters in my novels are cat ladies too and have lots of crazy cats running throughout. Big fun! :)

Wonderful to meet you, and many cat blessings!

Glad you're feeling heaps better, Connie, and I'm sure your kitchen is too...lol.

Val is a very easy person to enjoy an afternoon with, isn't she?

Last time I told anyone that I was depressed and bored, I was offered a job. I suddenly realised that a job was NOT what I wanted. For many months now I had not even been in the mood for blogging, but I'm happy to report that I'm really enjoying it once more.

Hope your having a good weekend, Connie, and thanks for all the comments you keep leaving for me. I do appreciate them.

Skipper is guilty of a few of those laws. He likes to sleep with people, but he insists on sleeping on your face. Or head. Or as close to your face or head as possible.

Also, cat hair is only attracted to contrasting clothing. So if you have a black cat, all the loose hair will be attracted to white socks but not black socks. I have tested this and found it to be true. Gigi is a calico cat and has some black hair. But when I take the lint roller to my black suit all I find stuck to it is orange and white hair. Well now orange, white (long and short), brown, and gray hair. Sake has the long hair, Cleo has the brown hair, and Skipper has the gray hair. Fred is orange and white.

But never any black hair on the black suit. On the gray suit there is black cat hair.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. I know what you mean...I have found blogging to be cathartic too at times, and something that is deeply bothering me is kind of released when I write about it.

Love the photo of you and Val- so cute!

Have a good weekend!

Meow! Cats are like Marlene Dietrich. "I need to be alo-ne". I love it when they slowly turn a corner to walk down the hall and you yell for them tocome to you and they "ignore" you. "Cat! CAt!! CAT!!! (No response, walks into another room like you don't exist). :D!!!!

I am glad that you are feeling better. It seems odd to think of winter when we are in the midst of summer here.

The Cat Physics are interesting but I have been finding out that bringing three adult cats together, one of which doesn't like other cats, can break many of the old "rules." Molly goes to the vet on Monday for her routine annual visit and I think we will take them up on their offer of something to help moderate the behavior of our three.

Hi everyone, and thanks for all your comments. There are so many, that I won't individually answer ... please accept my apologies for this. I usually like to answer each person.
I appreciate all you thoughts about my blue-mood last week, although I know that what I was feeling was quite minor, compared to so many people who feel like this, and worse, constantly. I can't imagine what that would be like.
Anyway, hope your weekend is going well.
Take care, hugs to you all ... Connie / Meow

Good to hear you're bright and chirpy again. We all have our "moments"...who know what brings them on...as long as they "blues" don't hang around for long, then that's great. :)
